Elections for 2020 are happening at the 4 December 2019 Chapter Meeting!
The Surfrider Foundation Massachusetts Chapter is expecting to have the following volunteer executive committee positions open:
- Chair
- Secretary
- Volunteer Coordinator
Additional roles may become available if members of our current executive committee shift to other positions.
All paid members of the Surfrider Foundation are eligible to vote and run for a position on our executive board. (Not a member yet? Join here!) The term for each position is two years. Additional details about the typical responsibilities for each position are included at the bottom of this page.
The elections will be held at our December 2019 Chapter Meeting on Wednesday, December 4th, which starts at 6:30 pm in the Eastern Bank Community Room at 250 Elm St, Somerville, MA.

Chair
- Acts as the main administrator and leader of the chapter
- Acts as main point of contact to Surfrider HQ
- Prepares agendas for and chairs general chapter meetings
- Is a spokesperson for the chapter
- Contributes to the chapter’s website and social media pages
- Uses the chair@ email address for chapter related emails
Secretary
- Takes notes at chapter meetings for timely distribution to attendees and Surfrider HQ staff
- Distributes meeting reminders
- Assists with the preparation and distribution of newsletters and other information
- Writes letters to any person or organization deserving thanks from the chapter
- Contributes to the chapter’s website and social media pages
- Uses the secretary@ email address for chapter related emails
Volunteer Coordinator
- Leads volunteer recruitment by communicating those needs to the membership and posting volunteer opportunities elsewhere as appropriate
- Build and manage a database or list of volunteers and potential volunteers for alignment with chapter needs
- Gets to know volunteers, their interests and match them to opportunities
- Responds to inquiries from people seeking to volunteer
- Contributes to the chapter’s website and social media pages
- Uses the volunteercoordinator@ email address for chapter related emails
