Calling All Cambridge Surfriders!

The Cambridge Ordinance committee will meet at Cambridge City Hall to debate amendments of an ordinance banning plastic bags. We could use your help! - The Ordinance Committee meeting on the Plastic Bag Ban has been rescheduled to Thursday March 12th, 5:30pm in the Sullivan Chamber of Cambridge City Hall

For many years now the great City of Cambridge has been trying to implement a ban on thin-filmed, non-reusable plastic bags (you know the sort that you see at grocery and convenience stores). This potential ban represents an important aspect of the MA Surfrider Chapter's campaign to "Rise Above Plastics" in which we've focused recent efforts to help local communities ban plastic bags and promote the use of reusable bags and drink bottles over single-use plastic versions.

Right now the City of Cambridge has two proposed ordinances and most would agree that the thing to do is to include the best parts of each into one proposed ordinance. Most if not all of the City Councilors support the idea of a ban on single-use plastic bags. Please read Councillor Dennis Carlone's blog post on the topic.

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Show up and provide support or even submit comment during the public comment period (first hour of the meeting). Any MA Surfrider members are welcome to attend - if there are Cambridge residents out there - your support would go even further to help the City over the fence and onto a ban on single-use plastic bags!

For more info or to let us know you are planning on attending, please email us a brief note.
