Cambridge Bans Plastic Bags!

Cambridge City Council Votes 8-1 to adopt a ban on plastic bags.

The ban makes Cambridge the largest city on the east coast to adopt such a ban and also the first community in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to require a fee on paper bag use. Councilor Carlone reports details in his blog here. Our Chapter is so pleased!

2015 New England Expression Session – Huge Success!

Saturday night 3/14, Surfrider MA and New England Surf Co co-hosted the 2015 New England Expression Session and with more than 200 attendees at the “Arts at the Armory” in Somerville MA, it was a huge success! Our Chapter is so grateful to all the terrific artists that donated their work.

Reduce. Reuse.

CBS news reports that garbage – and in particular plastic garbage – is being dumped in the world’s oceans at an alarming rate. You can make an impact on this daunting environmental issue, even if it seems small and inconsequential at first. Pick up plastic garbage you see on the streets, in the parks, and on the coastline. Invest in a reusable water bottle. Get (and use) reusable grocery bags. If we all take these simple steps, collectively, we can make a big positive impact!
